The South Bass Trail constitutes the western-most access route to the Tonto Trail. It marks a place in the Canyon where a notable shift in geologic formations is readily observable. It's not nearly as exposed as some trails on the South Rim, but it is one of the more difficult trailheads to reach. Interesting as well as remote, it should be on your list of not-to-be-missed hikes in the Grand Canyon.
