The first doctor a person meets when they enter Yavapai Regional Medical Center for treatment is a hospitalist.The hospitalist, who usually specializes in internal medicine, has no outside practice and limits his or her work to hospital medicine.Dr. Bob Wachter coined the term "hospitalist" in 1996 in an article in The New England Journal of Medicine, and programs began 10 years ago with the development of managed care.
