Antoine Kendrick, 36, who assaulted a customer at Prescott Valley Wendy’s — who later died from his injuries — changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on Monday, Feb. 26, during a status conference held at Yavapai County Courthouse.

In August 2022, Kendrick, a resident of Prescott, was charged with second-degree murder after a 67-year-old Dewey man that he physically assaulted died of his injuries on Aug. 5, Prescott Valley Police had reported.

Kendrick’s guilty plea is based on count two of a class one felony. He could face jail time of 10 to 16 years. The indictment is viewed as extreme indifference to human life. There will be no arraignment.

The altercation occurred around 4:40 p.m. at the Wendy’s on North Glassford Hill Road. It began when the customer complained about his food order, at which time Kendrick made his way from behind the service counter and struck the gentleman in the head. The customer fell to the floor, striking his head, and lost consciousness. The customer was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital.

Sentencing for Kendrick is slated for Monday, April 1, at 4 p.m. with Judge Krista M. Carman.
