Harold (Hal) Slaughter

With the love of his son, granddaughter, and New York family, Harold (Hal) Slaughter passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2023 peacefully at home as he wished.

Born in Tacoma, Washington, Hal is survived by his son Logan, his son-in-law Todd and his granddaughter Chloé. Hal was a beloved citizen of Prescott, Arizona for 30+ years, later moving to New York to be with his son in 2020.

He dedicated many years of service to the Social Security Administration in Prescott. Hal shared his life with his wife Mary who passed in 2016 after 29 years of marriage. He welcomed his son Logan in 1989 and the joy of his life, his girl and granddaughter Chloé in 2023.

Hal loved to spend time with friends at Matt’s Saloon where he had worked as a bouncer, and the Windsock where he shared many laughs with his loved ones. He was in multiple bowling leagues at Plaza Bowl and was known for his chant of “No drive, no five.” He also enjoyed hunting trips and fishing trips, even if he came back empty handed. The experiences he shared with friends were always more important.

Hal moved to New York in 2020 expecting to begin his final stages of his battle with cancer. However, he was able to live a beautiful life free of treatment for 2.5 years with his son and New York family before resuming treatment and finally choosing to enjoy his final months free of burden of treatments and rather focus on the joys of family. “living the good life,” as he would often say. Hal will forever be loved as a Father, Grandfather, Friend, a free spirit Cowboy, and a relentless fighter. He was a brave man who never gave up and never let fear get in the way of living life. There will be a celebration of life at the Windsock Sept. 30, 1-4 p.m.
