Greg Mengarelli, former mayor of the City of Prescott and president and board member of Prescott Unified School District, has announced his campaign for Yavapai County supervisor, District 1.

District 1 encompasses the core of Prescott and extends south and west to Congress, Yarnell, north Wickenburg and Bagdad.

“Faith, family, and freedom — that’s what Yavapai is fighting for,” Mengarelli said. “Our county is neck deep in challenges that threaten to change our culture and cause us to walk away from the values and heritage that made our communities great.”

Mengarelli added, “My family and I have called Yavapai County home for most of our lives, I’m fighting to preserve what’s made Yavapai special and make our communities a better place for our residents.”

From the moment Mengarelli first took office, he’s fought to find community-based solutions to Yavapai’s most pressing challenges, a news release stated. “Today,” Mengarelli said, “we must overcome what’s threatening our home in Yavapai: water scarcity, traffic congestion, rising costs of living, holes in our fire and police services, and a lack of quality education and healthcare options.”

Mengarelli added, “I’m running for Yavapai County supervisor to protect our community, leave Yavapai better than I found it, and preserve our western way of life. I love this county and what’s made Yavapai unique.

“A lot of people are exasperated about our situation and are entertaining giving up our values for short-sighted ideas. I’m running to provide Yavapai a different way forward, one that stands firm on our heritage, protects Yavapai families, and defends our private property rights, our religious liberty, and our privacy — those constitutional freedoms that made us great.”
