Game continued from Friday because of bad field lights
PRESCOTT – The Prescott High School Badgers finished their Homecoming football game Saturday afternoon, winning 44-20 after Friday night’s matchup was postponed just before halftime because the field lights kept failing.
The Badgers picked up where they left off against Sierra Linda High School from Phoenix, at 3:07 remaining in the first half; Prescott senior Cole Gross kicked a field goal right before halftime to make it 23-20.
Prescott head coach Cody Collett said: “Our defense made some great adjustments. (Defensive coordinator) Brandon Johnson made some adjustments, and our kids executed them really well.
“We pounded the ball really well, we were pleased,” Collett said. “Our kids did a great job.”
The Badgers and the Bulldogs traded punts in the third quarter, and senior Cody Leopold punched it in to make it 30-20. Then Prescott senior Jake Hilton had a 70-yard touchdown pass, followed in the fourth quarter by Leopold making another TD.
One player’s performance stood out over Friday and Saturday, scoring five touchdowns: Leopold. “He did a great job (Friday and) today too, he is one of the best players in the state – no question,” Collett said.
NEXT UP
Prescott (4-1) will be away at the NAU Skydome to play regional foe Flagstaff (2-3) on Friday, Oct. 14. Collett said they’re a “good opponent, we’re looking forward to competing against them.”
