Several hundred people gathered on the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza on Thursday, June 30, 2022 to remember the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who died fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire nine years ago. The June 30, 2013 tragedy was commemorated with the ringing of the courthouse bells 19 times, beginning at 4:42 p.m. While the gathering was intended as a silent moment of reflection and no public comments were made, a group of rangers with the Granite Mountain Company of the State of Arizona Rangers were on hand to stand at attention while the bells rang. Stan Herrera, captain of the group, said the Granite Mountain Company was formed three years ago to honor the Granite Mountain Hotshots.(Cindy Barks/Courier)
