Prescott Police shoot, kill armed woman inside bank Wednesday
A woman allegedly armed with a knife died Wednesday, Jan. 5, after being shot by Prescott Police at the Wells Fargo Bank, 3186 Willow Creek Road.
Police officers responded to the bank at 5:22 p.m. after an armed woman was reportedly threatening employees, according to a Prescott Police news release. Upon arrival, an officer located the suspect still inside the bank. This “initial contact” resulted in the officer shooting the woman.
The suspect was treated on scene for gunshot injuries and later transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center, where she later died, police said, adding that the officer was not physically injured.
According to police scanner discussions at the time of the incident, the woman was making demands for her money and, at one point, she pursued and threatened employees with a knife.
Police and investigators remained at the bank for hours afterward.
As is standard practice in an officer-involved shooting, the Prescott Police Department has asked an outside agency, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, to conduct the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, and further information was not immediately available.
