Obituary: Les Howard Hamlin

After a great run of nearly 72 years on earth, Les Howard Hamlin returned home to God on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. He passed away in his home from Covid-induced sudden cardiac arrest. Les was born in Los Angeles, California, on November 21, 1949, as the oldest of four kids to Leora and Lester Hamlin. An alum of St. Francis High School in Pasadena and the University of San Diego, Les grew up most of his adolescent and young adult life in Pasadena before moving to San Diego and Hawaii, and later settling in Prescott, AZ. He was a devout Catholic and member of Sacred Heart parish in Prescott.

Les loved putting a smile on people’s faces, no one who’s ever met him has escaped one of his many jokes or puns. Some of Les’s favorite things were the beach, Western movies, step class, visiting historic sites, pralines and cream ice cream, making people laugh, cooking, playing poker, Clive Cussler books, a good deal, and Disneyland.

Generous with his love, Les loved his kids and grandkids and family. He is survived by his two kids, Katie and husband, Andy and Mike and wife, Cori, six grandchildren; three siblings, brother, Larry and wife, Jan, sister, Linda and brother, Lonnie and wife Erin, and their families, as well as many friends and other relatives. He will be missed tremendously, but his loved ones are comforted to know he had a big welcome party in Heaven, where he was reunited with his parents, longtime girlfriend Diane, others who passed away before him, and a whole new audience for his jokes.

A Memorial Service will be held at his childhood parish, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, in Pasadena, CA, in May of 2022. Please email LesHamlinMemorialService@gmail.com for details. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
