Obituary: Michael (Mike) Winter
Michael (Mike) Winter, age 85, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away Oct. 2, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born Nov. 1, 1935 in Whapeton, N.D. to Fred P. and Julia (Reisdorfer) Winter. Mike proudly served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict.
Mike moved to Prescott in 1972, where he met and married the love of his life, Irene Espinoza on Feb. 16, 1974. He worked for Sacred Heart School and Prescott Unified School District as a Custodian. He was very active in organizations in Prescott such as Smoki People and Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo. He also played on the Prescott Senior Softball League. He and Irene liked to travel and had a fondness for their pets. Mike was always picking up a stray cat or dog.
Mike is survived by Irene, his wife of 47 years. He is also survived by his nephews, Jim Schafer and his daughters, Kristi and Melanie; Brian Schafer and Dennis Schafer, and Jim’s sisters, Linda, Patty, and Kathy. In-laws are, Martha (Joe) Rincon and their children, Anita, Tina and her children, Brianna and Timothy, Jose Espitia and his son, Jose II, and wife, Jennifer and children, Valaris and Robert, Dee Dudley and her son, Jason, plus numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and their family’s on both sides. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Fred P. Winter; mother, Julia Winter Johnson; brother, Fred (Pat) Winter and sisters, Rose Marie Schafer and Lorraine Lindberg.
There will be a Rosary for Mike at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury St. in Prescott, on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:00 a.m. All who knew Mike are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Yavapai Humane Society or your favorite Charity In Mike’s name.
