Finding and Making the Good recently recognized Real Hope, a nonprofit all-volunteer group in Prescott Valley whose focus is providing food assistance to those in need. As an all-volunteer group, Real Hope has been supplying as many as 2,000 food boxes a week throughout the area with donations coming from many sources.

Gato Community Gives (GCG), a community-funded organization (and originator of Finding and Making the Good), was developed during the pandemic to specifically address food assistance. “We are humbled by what the members of Real Hope have accomplished and happy to contribute $3,000 to the organization’s mission,” said Barry Barbe of El Gato Azul, and founder of GCG, noting that the group’s mission statement and vision is directly aligned with GCG’s of community helping community by exhibiting philanthropy through time, talents, and assistance.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

“Maya’s Mercado is one of the most amazing community supporters I have ever come across," said Irene Stonecipher, who nominated Real Hope. "Their never-ending support in food donations to keep the less fortunate fed goes beyond what you might expect. They have provided not only for local citizens but to our Native Nations as well in their times of need. Their partnership with Real Hope allows them ever greater opportunity to share with the community.”

Major contributors to the Real Hope effort include: Maya’s Mercado, Daniel’s Tuxedo and Tailor, Yavapai Bottle Gas, Prescott Valley Police Department, American Legion Post 140, Little Dealer, Little Prices; Pruitt’s Fine Furniture, Findlay Buick GMC, many local churches and other community organizations. Real Hope works with local churches as well as government and the private sector organizations to accomplish their mission, which is volunteer based and donation driven. CONTRIBUTION RENEWED RESOLVE

After the presentation from Finding and Making the Good, Duke Bacher of contributing partner American Legion Post 140 said she and other volunteers were literally brought to tears by the gift and its message.

"While we understand that we are helping many people on a regular basis, for us, it's 'just what we do'... and to have such an amazing gift, and all of you see it from a community view really made US think about the importance of our efforts," Bacher wrote. "We all thank you folks for renewing our resolve to be there for our community any way we can.”

Allan’s Flowers, one of many local businesses that help to make each presentation unique and personal, supplied a celebratory floral arrangement to Real Hope. Dining certificates, massage packages and landscaping services are some of the other ways the community has stepped up to recognize those that are Making the Good.
