Leaving the worries of the world at the door, Chino Valley residents kicked off the Town of Chino Valley’s 50th anniversary celebrations with a barn dance at Del Rio Elementary School on Friday night, March 13.

Mayor Darryl Croft said he was glad to finally start the celebrations. There are a lot of events planned that will culminate with a blowout weekend at Territorial Days in September. Mike Best, co-chair of the town’s 50th Anniversary Committee, said there were a few calls to cancel the event due to the coronavirus pandemic and calls for social distancing but with no confirmed cases in the county as of Friday night, he felt it wasn’t necessary.

“I think we should go and have fun, personally,” Best said.

Looking ahead to the rest of what’s planned in the lead up to Territorial Days, he said there will be a 50th anniversary enhancement at the Fourth of July celebration, at the upcoming Mud Run and other activities.
