Richard Frederick Emig

October 13, 1931 - December 15, 2019

Richard, 88, went to be with the Lord after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his son, David Emig; daughter, Karen Wesalek and sister, Carol Black. He was preceded in death by Linda, his loving wife of 49 years.

Richard served in the Navy right after completing high school. He served on the USS Winston from 1951-1955. He then, worked for Frank Milbee of Aerotech Services. In 1969 he bought the business and renamed it R & E Services. He built bicycles in his spare time.

In 1984, he and his family moved to Prescott, Arizona, where he continued the business in Prescott Valley. Prescott was home to him for 31 years where he and his wife were very active members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. During that time, Richard served as elder, head elder, then president of the congregation.

He was also a long-time member of the choir. One member writes: “I remember him as that faithful tenor who sat behind me in the choir, so now I hope he is singing with the angel choir.

All of us missed him when he moved to California.” He moved to California in 2015 to be near his cousin, Gwen Esch and her family.

In spite of his failing health, “he continued to amaze them with his memory and overall intelligence. His dry sense of humor never left him and he always made them laugh.

He will be missed.” A memorial service will be held at the home of Gwen Esch in Covina, California, at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Rev. Michael Dueppen of Saving Grace Lutheran Church in Chino Valley, Arizona, for being the officiant at Richard’s memorial service. Pastor Mike is a long time friend of the Emig family.

Internment will be handled by Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road in Whittier, California.
