Obituary: Robert A. Reynolds (Bob)

Robert A. Reynolds (Bob) was born in San Diego, Calif. on Dec. 8, 1925, and died on Aug. 16, 2020.

His father took the family to Arizona in 1928 when he became an early Border Patrol Officer. They lived in many Southern Arizona cities; Casa Grande, Tucson, Sasabe, Warren, Gila Bend and Yuma before returning to California in 1937. He graduated from Norbonne High School in Lomita, Calif. in 1943 before joining the Navy in early 1944. After special training he was sent to China where he remained until discharged late 1946.

Taking University courses first at Loyola University, or then the University of Southern California, he graduated with degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. His first work was with Standard Oil of California. Some years later he became the Chief Chemist at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, Calif. during the 1950s. He managed a large laboratory for analysis of explosives and rocket fuel. On return to Los Angeles he became Director of Research for Smith-Emery, the largest independent laboratory in the West.

He started GHT Labs in 1962 in Brawley, Calif. Its purpose was agricultural research and did complete testing programs for nationwide industrial and agriculture companies. Retiring in 1981 he moved to Prescott and involved himself in the victim-advocate program, Prescott Big Brothers, Sierra Club activities, church programs and the Prescott Stamp Club.
