Oregon bans trapping of rare, cat-like Humboldt marten

This Oct. 8, 2015 remote camera file photo provided by the Center for Biological Diversity shows a rare coastal Pacific marten in the Oregon Dunes in the Siuslaw National Forest, Ore. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission voted to ban the trapping of the extremely rare cat-like creature in coastal areas critical to its survival, a coalition of environmental groups announced on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019. The 4-3 vote taken late Friday, Sept. 13 would impose a trapping ban west of the Interstate 5 corridor to protect the fewer than 200 coastal Humboldt martens left in the state.
