Roughriders score 4 goals in final 20 minutes to beat Mesa 4-2

PRESCOTT — Jonathan Mayen scored two goals, Manuel Quiroz and Brandon Fischer each added a score and the Yavapai College men’s soccer team scored four unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of play in a 4-2 win over Mesa Community College on Saturday.
Trailing 2-0, Mayen started the scoring for the Roughriders with a goal in the 70th minute, then Quiroz tied the match at 2-2 in the 80th minute.
In the 83rd minute, Fischer scored off an assist from Ryan Wallace, his second of the match, and Mayen capped off the comeback with a goal in the 88th minute to give the Roughriders their second-straight victory.
Yavapai is 3-3 in its last six matches after starting the season a perfect 7-0, but are 7-0 at home so far in 2019.
Yavapai (10-3-0, 3-2-0 ACCAC) continues its three-match home stretch Thursday, Oct. 10, as they play host to South Mountain Community College.
The Roughriders beat South Mountain (0-10-1, 0-4-1 ACCAC) 12-0 to open the season.
Official start time at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Mesa (8-5-0, 2-3 ACCAC), which has lost three of their last four matches, travels to Pima Community College (8-2-1, 4-1-0 ACCAC) on Oct. 10 with a 7 p.m. start time.
