Global Christmas project to send joy to children overseas

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, Yavapai County families are expressing their gratitude by giving back. Residents are filling shoeboxes with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items to send to children in need around the world. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have ever received.

Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week occurs Nov. 18-25. The project partners with churches, organizations and families to collect shoebox gifts. These gifts will then be transported overseas and delivered to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine. The Yavapai County team of volunteers and residents were blessed when they sent 7,117 shoebox gifts in 2018, and have set a goal to collect 7,250 gift boxes during the 2019 collection week.

Eight drop-off locations have been established in Yavapai County to receive shoeboxes. All drop-off locations will be open daily however each drop- off location will have specific hours, which can be found on Google and Facebook. Once you are into the website, select “Find Your Shoebox Drop Off Locations”, Enter your zip code and the hours of service will be displayed. Note that app will designate drop off sites within 25 and 50 miles of your location. When you tap ’‘distance” you will find all drop off locations.
