Alta Vista Garden Club names May garden of the month
If you’ve thought there isn’t much to see in our area gardens during the winter and spring months, you must visit Alta Vista Garden Club’s May Garden of the Month.
It belongs to Sarah and Everett Cox who have owned the property for nearly 20 years. This outstanding landscape was designed by their son, according to a news release.
Together, they have made excellent use of drought-tolerant and native plants pruned in imaginative ways.
The Alta Vista Garden Club, founded in 1951, assists gardeners in creating their own gardens and to beautify the community. These images are of the May Garden of the Month, at 54 Murphy Way, about one-quarter of a mile past the Gateway Mall on Lee Boulevard. The Garden of the Month program honors those gardeners who have worked to create outstanding front yard gardens. The club’s next garden tour will be in June 2020. Old standards like pyracanthus, juniper and scrub oak have become the new “must-haves.” Lively splashes of annual color balance the dominant shaped designs.
To visit and appreciate this garden fully, turn onto Lee Boulevard on the Gateway Mall side of Highway 69 and go about one-quarter of a mile; then turn left on Murphy Way. You will see the garden at 54 Murphy Way.
Alta Vista Garden Club was founded in 1951 to help gardeners create their own beautiful gardens and to beautify the community as well.
Their mission is also to support and educate young gardeners, their members, and the community.
The Garden of the Month program honors those gardeners who have worked to create outstanding front yard gardens. The club also sponsors garden tours; the next one will be in June 2020 and usually features exceptional hidden back yards.
