CVUSD Student of the Week: Ava Jamie
Ava Jamie, a fifth grader in Ms. Crow’s and Mrs. Rock’s class, has been attending Del Rio School since she was a kindergartener in Ms. Jenny tenBerge’s class. Reflecting back on her many years here at Del Rio, what she has liked most are the special events “like the sock hop,” the clubs “Recycling and KDRN,” recess time “playing on the grass,” and most importantly her fun loving teachers throughout the years.
During her time here at Del Rio, Ava has been involved in many clubs and activities, but her two favorite ones are Recycling Club and KDRN. “I am passionate about saving the Earth for the next generation,” that is why Ava has remained a member of the recycling club even after just starting out as their mascot in kindergarten. She continues to be involved so she can encourage her peers and her teachers to continue recycling in their classrooms and around campus. She encourages through weekly pickups and by staring in the yearly recycle Earth Day play. At Christmas time, she enjoys creating unique ornaments out of recycled objects, “who likes expensive, boring objects when you can make a shiny, glittered water bottle ornament?”
Ava enjoys KDRN (Kids Del Rio Network) because she enjoys providing the daily morning announcements, working with the camera and “being famous ;-) at Del Rio School.” “Everyone knows who I am because of KDRN and I get to know things before other people do…its awesome!”
In school, Ava really enjoys the subject of Science, especially seeing how things react during experiments. When Ava is not busy with her academics and clubs, you can find her watching tv and playing video games with her best friend and family.
As Ava is off to middle school next year she is looking forward to having Art, Technology, and PE every day. At this point in her life, Ava hopes to become a 911 operator because she enjoys helping people so much.
We are so proud of Ava Jamie and the impact she has had on the teachers, staff, peers and campus of Del Rio School. We know she will continue to do great things!
