Letter: What could be worse?
This is regarding Tom Cantlon’s “Impeachment is done for us” column in the May 1 Courier. I have to admit I usually don’t read his columns. His hypocrisy used to make me angry, then it made me sad; now, it’s just boring.
But he hit a new high when talking about impeaching President Trump with this question: “What could be worse for the country than to see the president of the U.S. commit crimes and then take his wealth and go into quiet, unruffled retirement?”
I have an answer. How about a president that committed crimes, looked the nation in the eye while lying about cheating on his wife, almost got impeached and did get disbarred.
And his wife, who as first lady and then secretary of state committed more crimes than one can count. And then they both went on the lecture circuit and made a couple hundred million dollars.
That, to me, is far worse than a president going into ‘quiet, unruffled retirement.”
