Letter: Fireworks and our animals
Recently I read Robert Bokelman’s Letter to the Editor (April 22), “Fireworks at Watson Lake,” and will request that our City Council consider his concern. The upcoming Fourth of July fireworks will surely kick off a fun time at Prescott’s Watson Lake, but let’s consider as well, the lives of dogs and cats nearby - alone and settling into sleep as night falls. The sole refuge for numerous animals lost or surrendered, the Yavapai Humane Society near Watson Lake will measure up as a torture chamber, “bombs bursting in air” for animals’ sensitive ears. Can we then, consider celebrating the holiday with visual fireworks only? Caring community that we are, surely we can rise to meet that occasion.
