Letter: A better way to Save the Dells
For the last many months, there has been a daily “Save the Dells” rant printed in this paper, and I am thinking just about every citizen in the county is aware that there is a large number of folks that think development of this area of the Dells will destroy its beauty and attractiveness as a Prescott landmark. Well, maybe it would, maybe it wouldn’t, but I can’t accept attempting to limit the property rights of others “for the cause” is the right course to take.
There is a better way, one that doesn’t require protest marches around town or attacks on city hall, one that indicates how SERIOUS the “Save the Dells” movement is, and will preserve private property rights of the current owners while preserving the area forever. Here’s how: Get together and form a syndicate, then pool their moneys along with donations from other concerned citizens and PURCHASE the area they are concerned about. With that done, deed it over to the government with the “restriction” that the area cannot ever be developed and must be left “as is” for all future generations to enjoy.
