Winter Fun Run benefits U.S. Vets on March 23
U.S. Vets – Prescott and Yavapai College are holding the third annual Winter Fun Run Saturday morning, March 23.
A three-and-a-half-mile fun run that grows each year, it’s a wonderful collaboration between the college and U.S. Vets said Matthew Phillips, development and communication manager for U.S. Vets.
“It’s a family fun kind of event,” Phillips said. “It’s a true fun run where people just come out and they actually just have a good time.”
It’s all about building community as well as providing awareness to what U.S. Vets – Prescott does for homeless and at-risk veterans and the type of services the organization provides, he said.
Registration on the morning of the event takes place at 8 a.m. with the run itself happening from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Early registration is $20 while registration on the morning of the run is $30 and children 12 and younger run for free though a registration form must be completed.
All of the money raised from the event goes toward U.S. Vets, Phillips said. Last year there were about 30 runners and the hope is to have 20 percent more this year, he said.
Yavapai College Athletic Director Brad Clifford has been orchestrating the Winter Fun Run from the college’s standpoint and has done great work in making it a strong community event, Phillips said. It’s all about community and the college is very community oriented.
“They do a lot for the community,” Phillips said. “This is just one more example of how they reach out and help the community members and this just happens to be veterans, homeless and at risk.”
The third annual Winter Fun Run begins in front of the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. Food and drink will be provided after the run.
