Obituary: James (Jim) Pickett
James (Jim) Pickett was born on June 9, 1937, in Richmond, Indiana, and died on March 15, 2019, in Prescott, Arizona; he was 81. Jim was born to Fred B. Pickett and Catherine Kenworthy Pickett.
Jim graduated from Richmond High School and Indiana University. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and was stationed stateside for the most part; however, he did serve one year on the Island of Okinawa. After his tour in the Marines he returned to the States and taught Junior High and High School History and English. He was very active in the Marine Corps League and in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
He is survived by his devoted wife, Merilyn Ann Jones Pickett, whom he met at NAU and married on June 16, 1973 in Connecticut. He is also survived by a son by his first marriage, Dr. F. Bryan Pickett of Chicago, Illinois; a stepsister, Mary Ann McCormick (Allan); and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1230 Willow Creek Road, Prescott Arizona, 86301. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the U.S. Marine Corps League Toys for Tots.
