30,000 fentanyl pills seized on Indian reservation

TUCSON (AP) — U.S. officials say they have seized 30,000 fentanyl pills that were being trafficked by a Mexican drug cartel on an Arizona Indian reservation that sits on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Interior Department Law Enforcement Task Force on Opioids said Friday the seizure was part of a recent operation that swept up $700,000 worth of illegal and controlled substances in four border states.

The joint operation with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Drug Enforcement began as an investigation into large amounts of fentanyl pills being transported from Mexico through points of entry on the Tohono O’odham Nation south of Tucson.

Driverless-car deliveries of groceries in Scottsdale to end

SCOTTSDALE (AP) — Grocery chain Kroger is ending a pilot program in Scottsdale that used unmanned vehicles to make deliveries to customers.

The Arizona Republic reports that the service, done in conjunction with robotics company Nuro, will stop after Wednesday.

Kroger officials say the plan was always for Nuro to test autonomous vehicle delivery in Scottsdale before expanding to a larger metro area. The program started in August with a fleet of Nuro’s self-driving Toyota Prius vehicles that had back-up human drivers. Nuro’s unmanned R1 vehicle was added four months later.

Both companies plan to test the delivery service at Kroger stores in Houston.

Police: Woman fatally injured after jumping from moving car

SCOTTSDALE (AP) — Scottsdale police say a 24-year-old woman was fatally injured when she jumped from a moving car driven by another woman during an argument after the pair had been drinking.

Sgt. Ben Hoster said Summer Leann Crosswhite died of her injuries at a hospital after officers found her in the middle of a street Friday evening.

According to Hoster, Crosswhite was riding in the front passenger seat, opened the passenger door and jumped out.

Hoster says 21-year-old Courtney Kiser stopped and remained at the scene and later was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
