Letter: Thank you for zoo stories
As a volunteer and a docent with the Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary, I want to express my appreciation for all the work done by the Daily Courier staff to draw attention to our wonderful animals and facility. You may not see what a difference you made, but we can. I volunteer every Monday, and last Monday there were so many cars in the lot it looked like a Saturday. I speak to visitors, and so many mentioned how great the facility was and that it was their first visit. Without all the articles and information you shared with your public, they may never have made that first (of many, they promised) trip.
I particularly appreciated the article about how our animals made it through the severe snowstorm. Businesses and schools can close for a snow day, but animals must be fed and cared for every day. The keepers and staff have to bundle up, carpool in four-wheel drive vehicles, and dig their way to the enclosures. The writer of that article really emphasized the dedication required to care for all these animals every day.
It is wonderful that we exceeded our fundraising goal, and so many must be thanked for that. I am not the best person to do that (although I must mention that Lew Rees is, as my mother would say, “a hoot and a half” and he has been an amazing Energizer Domestic Rabbit on our behalf). The point of this letter is to recognize the Courier’s staff for their efforts on continuing to highlight the many wonderful features of the Prescott area.
Thank you so much!
