Letters: Water talk

Water talk

Editor:

In early February, two Prescott residents wrote to the Courier regarding water. The first, Mayor Greg Mengarelli, wrote straight from the sunshine pump, hailing “Good news about water conservation in Prescott.” In effect, his words stated that when we know “our current water balance, we can project growth. ...”

Two days after the mayor’s article, “Temporary drought or acidification: Will we thrive?” by Ed Wolfe, PH.D., came to light in the Courier. Considering council’s present plans for growth here, including a downtown hotel, subdivision in our treasured Dells, and more — we who live here need to know what lies ahead, considering too, that climate change is already altering our habitat. Considering the AZ State Climate Office that Wolfe quotes in his article: “Arizona is currently in our 21st year of a long-term drought,” we need to chisel a course for ourselves and others - before the derricks thunder in, before the first shovel is turned.
