Kohl’s is trying something new, shrinking 10 of its stores and leasing out that part to Planet Fitness in 2019, the corporation announced Tuesday, March 5.

Kohl’s wants to draw customers by leasing out space to gyms and supermarkets. However, the Prescott Valley location is not affected.

Carole Taccini, store manager for Kohl’s in Prescott Valley, said the Prescott Valley location is not one of the 10.

“We’re already one of the smallest stores in the company,” she said of the 64,000-square-foot store at 3280 N. Glassford Hill Road.

If the experiment takes off, Kohl’s could expand the partnership to more locations; it has more than 1,100 locations across the country.

Taccini explained the average size of the stores this move would affect are those that are 87,000 square feet, adding that because of the size she does not foresee this happening locally in the future.

Rumors of a new Fry’s Food and Drug Store opening near Highway 89 and Coyote Springs Road have re-surfaced. At this point, those murmurs are not true.

“We are not looking at this site at this time,” Kroger’s corporate affairs manager for the Fry’s division, Pam Giannonatti, said this past week.

Fry’s currently has three locations in the Prescott area, including one in Prescott Valley.

The rumor of a grocery store for the north side of Prescott Valley, near Viewpoint subdivision, has been ongoing – more or less – over the past decade.

Western Laundry and Dry Cleaning has opened its doors is ready for business.
