PRESCOTT — As it headed into a two-week layoff for spring break, the Prescott boys tennis team sure could’ve used a shot in the arm playing host to Williams Field on Thursday, March 7.
Since the 2019 season began on Feb. 26, the Badgers had lost three of their first four matches. Unfortunately for Prescott, circumstances didn’t improve against the unbeaten Black Hawks in an 8-1 setback at the Badgers’ campus courts.
In singles play, Badgers team No. 1 Sam Stoecker, a junior, recorded Prescott’s lone victory of the day, defeating Paul Doussiere, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6, in a thrilling match.
However, Prescott’s Nos. 2 through 6 singles players all lost. Freshman Owen Thomas, sophomore Chaz Schott, and juniors Kolob Farnsworth, Merlin Porter and Jared Carter succumbed in straight sets.
In doubles, Prescott’s pairings of Thomas/Stoecker at No. 1, Schott/Farnsworth at No. 2, and Porter/Carter at No. 3 lost 8-4, 8-1 and 8-0, respectively.
Prescott (1-4) will play its Division II, Section II opener at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Notre Dame Prep (6-0) in Scottsdale.
Williams Field (5-0) visits Casa Grande (4-1) for its D-II, Section V opener at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14.
