On Saturday, Feb. 9, Linda McGehee visited the Prescott Chapter of The American Sewing Guild for a trunk show and workshop.

Participants included Guild members and members from other local quilt guilds.

The all-day event, which included lunch, was entertaining and informative. McGehee brought many examples of her patterns made of various fabrics and textures.

She also entertained with amusing stories and “mistakes” that turned into new design ideas.

The day began with a trunk show, and each item had a story about how the design was sewn. Each participant bought a sewing machine, and the afternoon was spent making a scarf and a small handbag that may be worn around the waist and is great for travel.

McGhee is the owner of Ghee’s mail-order sewing and notions company. The most popular patterns are those designed by Linda for handbags with ready-to-wear handbag hardware.

She has published several books on sewing and designed and created garments for the prestigious Fairfield Fashion Show, Statements, Capitol Imports, and Better Homes & Gardens.

In 2018, members of the Prescott Chapter of The American Sewing Guild logged more than 850 hours sewing for local charities. They are now busy preparing for a clothing donation to Head Start for the Easter holiday with numerous outfits for the boys and girls.

This guild also donates handmade items to local charities such as scarves for cancer patients at

Arizona Oncology, 68 clothing items and 55 warm hats donated to Dress A Child in 2018, walker bags

for the VA Hospital, and unique pillow cases that are sent to the military troops.
