Lew Rees of Courier Cares pets a bunny rabbit at the Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary during the “Lew Loves the Zoo” fundraising event Wednesday, March 6, in Prescott. On Wednesday, Rees worked in the gift shop and he also went to Las Fuentes Resort Village with some animals as part of the organization’s Friends from the Zoo program. Zoo staff take some animals, such as the bunny rabbits and ferrets, to people in retirement homes and other places, giving the opportunity for those who can’t make it to the zoo to pet the animals. The fundraiser brought in $3,855 Wednesday, making for a grand total of $25,325.37 overall. On Thursday, March 7, the final day of the “Lew Loves the Zoo” fundraiser, Rees is scheduled to participate in some maintenance work. There will also be a party where the total amount raised will be revealed. Donations can still be made to Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary in person or their website at heritageparkzoo.org. The zoo is located at 1403 Heritage Park Road in Prescott. Thursday’s pizza party is at noon and free for members, and nonmembers will have to pay regular admission to Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, military personnel and students, $6 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for ages 3 and younger. The party will have Papa John’s Pizza and Pepsi products.
