Prescott's Summer Concert Series continues
The annual singing competition may have a new name, Prescott Sings!, but the entertainment and competitiveness remain high this summer. Prescott Sings! (formerly Prescott Idol) is on the courthouse plaza in downtown Prescott each Thursday.
Prescott's 2019 Summer Concert & Movie Series is underway with entertainment downtown pretty much any day of the week.
One of the most popular is Prescott Sings!, which is at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at the courthouse plaza. The finale is Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, 1100 E. Sheldon St. (Every third Thursday is a performance by the Central Arizona Concert band at 7 p.m. beginning Thursday, June 20.)
Other entertainment includes:
- Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., Jazz on the Square with appearances by the Goodwin Street Gang, Mint, the Northern Arizona Big Band, the Mike Vax Quintet, Steve Annibale, and Scandalous Trio and Friends.
- Friday night concerts by the likes of Five in the Wheel, Xtra Ticket, Scandalous Hands, Road One South, Toucan Eddy and The CheekTones.
- Movies at the Elks are at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center, 117 E. Gurley St. Movies on the list include “Only the Brave,” “Junior Bonner,” “Labyrinth,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Somewhere in Time,” “Tombstone,” “Jaws,” “Pretty in Pink” and “Steel Magnolias.”
Admission for the concerts is free, and admission to movies at the Elks is a cash donation of any amount.
The Summer Concert & Movie Series is unique in that it features local entertainment.
