DISH Network may drop Arizona’s Family KPHO, CBS 5 and KTVK, 3TV
On Friday, July 12, Arizona’s Family, KPHO CBS 5 and KTVK 3TV television stations in the Phoenix market and home of CBS in Phoenix, began notifying its viewers that DISH Network may drop the stations from its lineup at 4 p.m. Monday, July 15, according to a news release.
By law, cable and satellite companies must negotiate in good faith with television stations before dropping the TV stations’ signals. If DISH fails to reach an agreement, KPHO CBS 5 and KTVK 3TV programming, including local news, NCIS, PGA Tour golf, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy, will not be available on DISH systems as of Monday, July 15. KPHO CBS 5 and KTVK 3TV will still be available over-the-air and from all other cable and satellite companies serving the Phoenix market.
“Arizona’s Family has been trying for months to get DISH Network to negotiate seriously. Reaching a deal and preventing a blackout is our top priority,” said Kevin James, Arizona’s Family KPHO CBS 5 and KTVK 3TV general manager.
“We know the vital local news, emergency information, top-rated sports and entertainment programming we provide are important to DISH customers, and we hope DISH will make it a priority to reach a deal too.
“If you are a DISH customer, you can help by calling DISH and telling them you want KPHO CBS 5 and KTVK 3TV. You can reach DISH by calling 1-800-333-3474 to speak with their customer service.”
James added that if DISH drops KPHO and KTVK, “all of our great local news and CBS lineup will still be available from DIRECTV, Cox, and others, and of course, KPHO and KTVK are always available for free over the air.”
DISH representatives were unavailable for comment.
