Update: I-17 is now open; wildfire under control

UPDATE - 5:43 p.m.:

The southbound lanes of Interstate 17 have reopened at Table Mesa Road after a brush fire, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

There is still a heavy backup southbound between Black Canyon City and Table Mesa Road and drivers should continue to expect lengthy delays in the area.

UPDATE - 4:10 p.m.:

State Forestry reports that firefighters, along with slurry bombers, are making headway on wildfire that has southbound I-17 closed.

UPDATE - 3:40 p.m.:

The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 have reopened at milepost 232, at New River, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. However, the southbound lanes remain closed at this time due to a brush fire.

All southbound traffic must exit at Table Mesa Road. Southbound traffic must then take I-17 northbound. There is no estimated time to reopen the southbound highway. Southbound traffic can take Highway 169 or 69 to Highway 89 in Prescott and then US 93 to US 60 into the Valley. It can also use Highway 260 to Highway 87 through Payson.

There is a heavy northbound backup between New River and the Anthem area. Drivers should still consider delaying travel or alternate routes if possible.

UPDATE - 3:05 p.m.:

The southbound lanes of US Highway 93 have reopened after a vehicle fire at milepost 194, near the Highway 89 junction and north of Wickenburg, ADOT reports.

The northbound lanes were unaffected.

UPDATE - 2:46 p.m.:

The right lane of northbound Interstate 17 has reopened at milepost 232, at New River, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The left lane of northbound, and both southbound lanes, remain closed at this time due to a brush fire.

All southbound traffic must exit at New River. Southbound traffic can then use New River Road to access Highway 74 and I-17. There is no estimated time to reopen the southbound highway or the remaining northbound lane.

There is heavy northbound traffic between the closure and the Anthem area. Drivers should consider delaying travel or alternate routes if possible.

PHOENIX – Interstate 17 is closed in both directions because of a brush fire at milepost 232, at New River, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

All traffic must exit at New River, according to a news release. There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.

ADOT also reported that the southbound lanes of US Highway 93 are closed. A vehicle fire at milepost 194, near the Highway 89 junction and north of Wickenburg, has lead to this closure.

There is no estimated time to reopen the southbound lanes of Highway 93. The northbound lanes are unaffected.
