Elderly Dewey woman killed in I-17 crash
Several others injured
One died and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on northbound Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City Wednesday night, Jan. 23.
Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) troopers responded to the scene at about 7 p.m.
Officials said the crash was started when a Mercury SUV driven by a 75-year-old Dewey man changed lanes, striking a Subaru SUV driven by a 61-year-old Flagstaff man. A Nissan driven by a 23-year-old Phoenix women then struck the Subaru.
Louella Hunsaker, an 88-year-old Dewey woman who was a passenger in the Mercury, was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. The 75-year-old Dewey man was also taken to the hospital, where he was admitted for his injuries.
The Phoenix woman and four passengers in her car were transported to the hospital as well. Three were admitted to the hospital and one was treated and released.
The Flagstaff man was uninjured.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-17 for a couple of hours.
