Roughrider 100 race set for President’s Day weekend in Prescott Valley, Feb. 15-17

Over President’s Day weekend, Feb. 15-17, 100 of the best off-road motorcycle races from the U.S. and Canada will return to Prescott Valley. The event is being sanctioned by the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) and the racers will be competing for $30,000 in cash and prizes, the $4,000 Mayor’s Trophy and title of ‘Field Craft Survival Rough Rider 100 Champion.’ The race will take place Prescott Valley’s Lynx Creek with spectators be able to view the race at Little Dealer, Little Prices off of Highway 69. The multi-day event with feature races for kids, a U.S. Army new recruit swearing in ceremony, rider reception at Buffalo Wild Wings, women’s pro race, men’s pro race and more. Humboldt wrestling places 7th out of 23 teams at T-bird Classic Jan. 5

Humboldt Unified Middle School’s wrestling team finished seventh out of 23 teams at the Thunderbird Classic Jan. 5 at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix. Six of Humboldt’s 18 wrestlers medaled. They included: Dustin Oen, sixth place, 104 pounds; Tony Walters, second place, 104 pounds; Jackson Perkins, second place, 118 pounds; Casey Larcombe, sixth place, 125 pounds; Kaden Martinez, third place, 142 pounds; Charliebill Cain, third place, 167 pounds.

Prescott Girls Softball Association sign-ups begin

Registration for Prescott Girls Softball Association (PGSA), a recreational league, has started, and girls are encouraged to sign up at www.prescottsoftball.com. A free softball clinic will take place Feb. 23. Tryouts will be conducted March 2. The season runs from March 18 through May 24. The 10U division and the open division will play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. or 7:15 p.m. The 8U and 12U divisions will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. All events will take place at the Heritage Park fields off of Willow Creek Road in Prescott. Registration is $65 per player for the season, although additional players living in the same household may play for $60 each. Every girl who tries out is placed on a PGSA team. They then play other PGSA teams in their division.

Prescott Little League registration underway

Registration for Prescott Little League is now underway at www.prescottlittleleague.org with opening ceremonies taking place on Saturday, March 23. The league will consist of both baseball and softball with players divided up by age into different groups, as follows. Baseball Juniors- for boys ages 13-15 with tryouts required (85$), Baseball Majors- for boys ages 9-12 with tryouts required (75$), Baseball Minors- for boys ages 7-11 (65$), Baseball Coach Pitch- for boys ages 6-8 (55$) and Baseball T-Ball- for boys and girls ages 4-6 (55$). Softball Majors- for girls ages 9-12 (65$), Softball Minors- for girls ages 7-11 (65$) and Softball Coach Pitch- for girls 6-8 (55$). The Challenger Division is also available for players of all ages and gender with physical and/or mental challenge; no fee. One tryout will be required for all new Juniors and Majors baseball players. Two tryout dates will be held, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23. New Juniors and Majors baseball players will then be drafted to a team, after tryouts. Coaches are needed for all divisions and are required to register on www.prescottlittleleague.org.
