The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers who use Highway 89 in Prescott to plan for road closures Wednesday, Jan. 16, while urgently needed pavement repair work is underway.

Highway 89 will be closed in both directions from Highway 89A to Deep Well Ranch Road starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. This is much earlier than ADOT originally reported.

"The pavement on the road was in poor condition as a result of winter weather and snow that Prescott received," said ADOT spokesperson Ryan Harding. "Crews determined that this section of SR 89 needed to be repaired sooner rather than later and a decision was made to close at 10 a.m. today."

The closure is anticipated to reopen by the late Wednesday afternoon/early evening rather than lasting through the night as originally planned, he said.

• Drivers can use Deep Well Ranch Road to access north- and southbound 89. All truck traffic will be diverted to Willow Creek Road.

• Law enforcement will be in place directing traffic. ADOT will limit access to local traffic only.

• Drivers should obey traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
