Rev. Arthur Alpha Barnes, Jr. Rev. Art Barnes, 88, born in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Paulden, Arizona, reluctantly left this world and his family on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. During the last months of his life he was lovingly surrounded by his family and thoughtful caregivers. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Theology, Art co-authored, with Val Jean Barnes, three books on the Bible, Did God Break His Promise?, Did the Bible Contradict Itself?, and Are the Two Witnesses Standing By?. Art retired from the U.S. Postal Service, served in the U.S. Air Force, and preached over 50 years in the pastoral branch of the Ministry. Art loved spending time with his family playing dominoes and the card game Shoot the Moon, playing Scrabble with his friend and fellow pastor Dale Mallicote, and RV’ing all over the country with his wife Val. Art was a poet, a singer, and well-known for his jokes and goofy character. Art was predeceased by Val, wife of 43 years; his parents, Arthur Andrew Jackson Barnes and Clemmie Virginia Arthur Barnes; and sisters, Helen Masterson, Evelene Kiddy, Beatrice Swindell, all of Oklahoma; and survived by his sister, Christine Barnes-Davis of Oklahoma; seven children, Robyn Barnes of Colorado, Melody James (Alan), Jeff Barnes (Sandra), Renee Walker (Willie), all of Arizona, Valerie Phillips of Georgia, James Eliasen (Mary Ellen) of Arkansas, Stephenie Taylor (Chad) of Arizona; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Heritage Memory Mortuary in Prescott, Arizona, on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Ash Fork Settlers Cemetery in Ash Fork, Arizona. Daddy, you will be missed. Keep your worms warm.
