Stephen Jon Gonzalez

Stephen Jon Gonzalez, 69, born January 1949, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and died Jan. 8, 2019, in Prescott Valley, Arizona. His parents were Alta Gracia and Raul Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Cruz) Gonzalez, of 18 years, and his 10 children with nine grandchildren.

Stephen was married in October 1969 to his wife, Esmeralda (Carboney) Gonzalez. They had five children (four living) before she passed away in 1995.

Although born in Cheyenne, he spent most of his life in Los Angeles with his parents and his six siblings. Stephen served in the U.S. Army as a Ranger in the 173rd D Airborne Brigade (The Herd). He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 and earned many decorations, including a Purple Heart. Stephen retired from the military after 20 years of service. After the passing of his wife Esmeralda, he married his current widow, Linda, and became a father to her five children. They had one child together. Stephen worked as a clerk at the VA hospital until he retired in 2010. Stephen was a strong, loving man who will be missed by many.

A church service will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7885 E. Longlook Drive, Prescott Valley, at 9 a.m. for the viewing, 10 a.m. for the service, and the Military burial service will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix on Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
