GOODYEAR — For the first time in 2019, the Prescott boys soccer team took to the pitch as they traveled down to Goodyear to play Estrella Foothills. The Badgers were able to have a successful offensive game behind 20 shots on goal and took the victory 5-0 over the Wolves.
For Prescott, freshman Edgar Martinez played well securing seven shots on goal himself in the match and netting a goal on a penalty kick. All five goals were scored by different Badgers with Jonathan Gross, Zach Jones, Bryant Chivara and Fernando Rodriguez all finding the back of the net in addition to Martinez.
“We played to the game plan and got the win,” coach Phil Reid said. “Edgar Martinez was easily the man of the match with his seven of 20 shots on goal.”
He added, “Brayden Nelson was also strong off the bench with a workmanlike performance keeping the Estrella mid-field on their heels.”
The win gives the Badgers a five game winning streak in non-tournament games and they now sit a No. 8 in the current conference standings. As we head into the second half of the season, Prescott has yet to play a region matchup, but after Saturday, the Badgers will play six straight games in Grand Canyon play to close out the season.
Prescott will be in action for the second straight day Saturday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. when they host the Thunderbird Chiefs at Bill Sheppard Filed here in Prescott.
