Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has appointed Mark Richardson to the Mayer Unified School District Governing Board effective Jan. 4; the appointment will expire on Dec. 31, 2020.
This seat was vacant due to the resignation of Melissa May, who successfully ran for the seat in the 2018 election cycle but decided not to take office.
Richardson, a resident of Cordes Lakes and a retired Department of Public Safety officer, has served on the board for an extended period, but had decided not to seek re-election. He then applied for the appointment when it came available.
“Mr. Richardson understands the role of the governing board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. He relates well to all segments of the community and will continue to work well with his fellow board members, the administration, staff and community members,” Carter said in the Jan. 7 press release.
Carter accepted letters of interest before conducting candidate interviews and speaking individually with the elected board members, school staff and administration, and several area residents prior to making the appointment.
