Chalk it Up! Prescott seeks volunteers for planning committee

Planning for Chalk It Up! Prescott 2019 is seeking community volunteers. Now in its 11th year, this annual event, taking place from 10 a.m. – to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14, is intended to cultivate and support the creativity in people of all ages and abilities. Participants will create a virtual museum of pavement chalk art at 201 N. Montezuma Street — in the National Bank of Arizona’s parking lot.

Volunteers are needed to join one of the planning teams, of which there are several. For example, those who appreciate art might enjoy helping to select the best among the professional guest artists who apply to share their colorful creations. The Volunteer Team helps line up and coordinate the approximately 150 people who come help out on the weekend of the event. The Sponsor Team seeks out local businesses willing to donate funds or coupons that are given out to amateur chalkers who are simply doing a great job.

“Last year I had such a great time helping out as a volunteer, that this year I’ve agreed to coordinate all the people who come to help out,” said Lori Wallach, co-chair of Chalk It Up! Prescott 2019. “The event showcases the best of Prescott: children and adults making beautiful chalk designs, while enjoying – and even dancing to – the musical entertainment.”

Chalk It Up! Prescott is coordinated by the nonprofit West Yavapai Guidance Clinic Foundation to raise funds which provide community mental health resources that transform lives for the better - giving HOPE, HELP and HEALING to the most vulnerable members of our community.

In just 10 years Chalk It Up! Prescott has created a community-centered public art event attended by more than 5,000 people annually, some to make colorful chalk drawings and others just to walk through the fabulous display. Anyone who wishes to draw is given a square to color and a box of chalk. Participants range from toddlers to seniors, all of whom enjoy the opportunity to create drawings, listen to music, view the art and share in the fun.
