Councilman Best: 50th anniversary book to focus on town history
Mayor Croft to conduct planning session at next meeting

Giving an update on the activities of the Chino Valley 50th Anniversary Committee at the Tuesday, Feb. 12, Chino Valley Town Council meeting, Councilman Mike Best said the main thing the committee is doing is getting articles for the book.

The book is a project that will have chapters on the town’s history, businesses, churches services clubs and individuals. The committee has talked to a publisher and they have a little more time to work on it, Best said.

“We want to go ahead and have the book ready to go ahead and be available this coming Labor Day weekend,” he said. “At all of our activities, we’ll have it available throughout next year.”

The committee has also had artists show presentations and one even talked about making miniatures that could be sold or raffled off they are looking at postcards and T-shirts as well, Best said.

The meetings are still on the first Wednesday of every month and the next meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Chino Valley Town Hall, 202 Highway 89. What is really needed are volunteers to get information from old families and old businesses, said Councilman Jack Miller.

“If anybody’s out there, interested and would be willing to help we could use that and drumming up old photos,” Miller said.

Forms for individual entries in the book are available at www.chinoaz.net/523/Chino-Valley-50th-Anniversary.

At the next meeting, Mayor Darryl Croft is going to conduct a planning session, setting goals and determining some action steps.

“Some time during this year, we have to do a budget, so part of that has to be put together,” Croft said. “We’re going to sit down, start back and day one and do some planning. I know a lot of it’s been done already so we’ll bring that in to what we’re going to do with a planning session.”

If anyone is unable to come to the next or any meetings, they can provide their email address so whether they are there or not, they can be caught up on what went on, Best said.
