Watch: Teen girl rescues toy yorkie puppy from attacking hawk

LAS VEGAS — Home security video cameras captured footage of a 15-year-old girl rescuing a small puppy from an attacking hawk Friday.

Las Vegas resident Cecilia Celis told KVVU-TV she had let her toy Yorkshire terrier, Lulu, into the back yard of their Summerlin home. She shut the door and looked away. When Celis looked back to check on Lulu the dog was in a fierce battle with a red-tailed hawk.

"...the bird swoops in, drags her and is like choking her," Celis said. "It stood on her."

Security camera footage captured the fight between the hawk and the small 2-pound Lulu, who is less than a year old. Lulu's sister, Heidi, can also be seen in the video trying to stop the hawk.

Celis ran out into the back yard and repeatedly swung a patio furniture pillow at the attacking bird and was finally able to drive it away.

After releasing the puppy the hawk remained in the area but eventually flew away.

Lulu is recovering from neck injuries caused by the hawk's sharp claws.
