A 14-year-old boy was hit and killed by a truck Thursday morning, Feb. 7, after attempting to cross the street near the intersection of Spouse Drive and Robert Road, Prescott Valley.

Police said the boy ran north across the street mid-block in the 8100 block of East Spouse Drive behind a semitrailer truck stopped in the median strip around 7:25 a.m. The semi was making deliveries.

“A vehicle traveling westbound on Spouse Drive did not see the juvenile run from behind the [semi] until it was too late,” Prescott Valley Police Department spokesperson Jerry Ferguson said. “The vehicle (a red Chevy truck) struck the juvenile who was deceased on scene.”

Some surrounding businesses were open at the time of the incident, but people there said they didn’t see the accident happen.

As soon as police arrived on scene, they blocked off Spouse between Robert Road and Noel Road and put up a tarp barrier around the body. The boy’s body was removed from the road and transported to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office. Spouse Drive remained closed as of 11 a.m.

“This incident is still under investigation,” Ferguson said.
