Letter: Inequality

Jerry Fowler’s Aug. 14 idea that there is income inequality because white men have more intellect and ambition than women or people of color is sexist, racist and simply not true. Does Mr. Fowler even have a clue as to why, as he wrote, “the most scientific progress has been a product by white males?” Another claim that the more successful people are more moral because they create more jobs and give to charity is ludicrous. I think Mr. Fowler needs lessons in sociology, psychology, economics and history.

Columnist Tom Cantlon was correct that there has been a white male hierarchy that has dominated education and business for more than a century, but people like Mr. Fowler want to believe they did it all on their own. People like this are blind to reality.

Finally, Mr. Fowler seems to say that income inequality is inevitable and will naturally continue as the more intelligent white males will continue to be more successful. In fact, income inequality today was created by Republican legislators’ tax cuts to corporations, suppression of unions with their unfair “right-to-work” laws, tax cuts for the wealthy, purposeful suppression of low- and middle-income wages, discrimination and voter-suppression laws.

Thus, income inequality is not inevitable and must be changed.

By the way, contrary to Mr. Fowler’s view, the Mueller report did find at least 10 instances of obstruction of justice and found 132 different contacts (collusion) between Russian operatives and the Trump campaign. All are illegal.
