Prep Volleyball

PRESCOTT VALLEY — In a battle pitting the Top 2 and only remaining unbeaten teams in the Grand Canyon region on Tuesday night, Sept. 18, Bradshaw Mountain’s volleyball team was swept by Flagstaff, 3-0, at Gary Kunow Gym.

In the 25-9, 25-20, 25-15 loss, the Bears’ record fell to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the Grand Canyon region. They had entered the match in second place behind region leader Flagstaff, which improved to 13-2, 4-0.

“Flagstaff was tipping on us, and we struggled picking that up,” Bradshaw Mountain coach Natali Sobczak said. “We had a difficult time executing. Flagstaff’s defense was good.”

The Eagles have now swept their first four region opponents, including Mingus, Mohave, Lee Williams and now Bradshaw Mountain, in the first half of the campaign.

Flagstaff’s lone loss in a power-point match came Aug. 30 in a 3-1 setback at stalwart Greenway.

On Tuesday, Mailani Manuel paced the Bears with six kills and seven digs. Peyton Bradshaw tallied four kills and seven digs. Rylee Bundrick added four kills and Reillie Smith notched six digs. Jordyn Moser chipped in with one kill and four digs.

Bradshaw Mountain welcomes region foe Lee Williams (10-4 overall, 2-2 region) to Prescott Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Kunow Gym.

Flagstaff plays host to Cactus (9-5 overall going into Tuesday) to open a three-match home stand at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 19.
