Rants & Raves: September 16, 2018

Got something on your mind? Tell us about it in 40 words or less.

  • Bears repeating: I belong to a nutty church. Our pastor is a big Chicago Bears fan. Most of our congregation wore sports uniforms to church today. Believe it or not we sang the Bears’ Fight Song during the service. It’s a nutty positive.

  • Go, Joe!: Shoeless Joe Jackson should be inducted into Major League Baseball’s hall of fame. Period.

  • Look deeper: In this present age of division and hostility we need to judge a person by their character and integrity, rather than by their politics.

  • What island?: The name of the state Rhode Island should be changed. It’s not an island.

  • Private act: Abort public education and state universities and colleges; encourage private education with tax credits.

  • Council consideration: Helicopter school — Just one more in a long string of hastily, ill-conceived projects passed by the council. Building for building sake is never a good idea. It doesn’t add to nor support the historic or esthetic makeup of the community.

  • Think and drive: Can anyone think of a valid reason why someone (i.e a politician) would vote against banning texting or talking on a cellphone while driving?

  • Just say no: Using cellphones in any way while driving is irresponsible! This should be outlawed. No texting, talking or use of any kind should be allowed! It could save many lives. Surprised this has not been put into law before now.

  • Food cart concerns: While the food carts on the plaza are quaint, they present a major problem. Allowing them to occupy parking spaces for unlimited time on weekends steals scarce spaces from the visitors and customers to the businesses downtown. Move them.

  • McCain revealed: So now the McCain family is objecting to the GOP using the senator in ads but has given “permission” to Democrats. All we need to know about the McCain political legacy: a RINO forever!

  • Ban backer: Let’s hope the Board of Supervisors does the right thing and institutes a ban on use of cellphones/texting while driving. Driving around here is hazardous enough without the added distraction. Let’s make it safer for all of us.

  • Attacks backfire: Political “attack ads” convince me to vote for the person being attacked.
