Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey visited Prescott Valley Saturday morning to take part in the Blessing of the Field at the Prescott Valley Civic Center Theater on the Green. The annual ceremony, which includes the display of 3,000 American flags, serves as the kickoff for Patriot Week and the opening of the 2018 Healing Field. Nineteen additional, specially embroidered blue flags are also on display at the ceremony in honor of the fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots. In dedicating the field of flags, Ducey said, “We must never forget the 3,000 lives lost that day 17 years ago.” In his short address, the governor also acknowledged the nearly 500 firefighters, police officers and military personnel who “gave their lives in the line of duty.” The governor also spent part of the day in Prescott at a Patriot Week event held at the Yavapai County Fairgrounds.
