Tis Art Gallery is holding its third annual Art SWOOP for Art Education this weekend with all the money going towards children’s art education.
The artwork donated for the event gets better and better every year, said Art Education Programs Assistant Debbie Rasmus.
“People are really into it, they want to help. Where else can you go get an original piece of artwork for $25 if you buy your tickets ahead of time,” Rasmus said, also noting that tickets are $30 at the door. “I just think it keeps getting better and better and bigger and bigger. We have 70 pieces this year.”
The last couple of years have had between 50 and 60 pieces of artwork and parents of students in the STEPS Art Classes have asked if they can have a canvas and create something as their way of giving back to what it is ’Tis does for the kids.
The event is from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in the Gallery’s third floor banquet hall. Art history, snacks and libations are included and each ticket purchase provides the ticket holder with an original 12 by 12 wall piece, sculpture, piece of jewelry or wearable art by a Prescott area artist. ’Tis Art Gallery is located at 105 S. Cortez St. in Prescott.
There are even some people who don’t buy tickets and only come to see the art available at the event as well as what’s going on.
Artists whose work is in the SWOOP include Judy Book, Linda Britt, Nate, Jen Chandler & Patti Ortiz, Bonnie Dann, Vivian Farmer, Ash Glasser, Russell Johnson, Skyler Johnson, Ida Kendall, Feliz Manzanedo and Barb Wills.
There’s also the Creative Spirit Costume Party, where people can come as their favorite artist, piece of art or just as themselves. Someone once came as Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” Rasmus said.
“She walked around with an empty frame,” she said.
